We're One of You
As the parents of a teenager with Autism, ADHD and severe Anxiety, when we started the process to secure our son an EHCP, we had no idea what we we would face, how long the process would take or how hard it would be. So we're one of you - a parent fighting for our child.
Like most parents, we completely underestimated how little support we would get from the public services put in place to ensure education is provided for ALL children and young people, regardless of their differences. We faced brick wall after brick wall and often felt completely alone in our fight to secure an appropriate education for our son.
While our journey still isn't over, we've learnt a lot and have also come to realise that we're far from alone in the word of SEND. We're also built up a huge amount of knowledge long the way, of SEND Law, the EHCP process, and the approach LAs take when deciding which child gets which education.
To extend our understanding, we went on to complete the following courses:
Level 2 Certificate in Special Educational Needs and Disability
CPD Parent SEN Advocacy Training Programme
As part of our journey we realised the importance SEND Advocates play in supporting parents to secure education for their children and we wanted to help other parents in the same situation as us. So SENDvincible was started to do just that.
